The Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Hariqo Wibawa Satria, emphasized that the Free Health Check (CKG) program is a crucial step towards building a healthier nation. He believes that CKG is the beginning of a shift in mindset towards prioritizing health and well-being. Hariqo stated that as Indonesia celebrates each Independence Day on August 17, the goal is not only to commemorate freedom but also to witness more Indonesians freed from the burden of illness.
President Prabowo’s administration has launched various initiatives such as CKG, the “Stop TB” campaign, and efforts to strengthen regional public hospitals. Special allowances are also being provided for medical professionals serving in remote areas. Despite Indonesia’s 80 years of independence, the country is still grappling with the impact of diseases on its economy and society.
Economic losses due to illnesses, smoking, obesity, and tropical diseases have been significant. The government acknowledges that investing in health is not only a social necessity but also an economic strategy. Hariqo highlighted the prevalence of health issues among Indonesian children, including diabetes, obesity, and vision problems due to excessive gadget use. CKG serves not only as a preventive measure but also as a means of health education.
The aim is for Indonesia to make progress each year towards a healthier population that can actively contribute to national development and economic growth. Hariqo stressed that a healthy population leads to increased life expectancy and higher productivity. Improved public health could potentially boost GDP growth by 1-2 percent annually. The goal is for every Independence Day celebration to reflect a nation with fewer citizens suffering from illness and more individuals actively participating in the country’s progress.
