The National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN) is pushing for the integration of nutrition education into the national school curriculum. This initiative aims to cultivate a generation of healthy, intelligent, and globally competitive Indonesians. Ikeu Tanziha, a member of BGN’s Nutrition Expert Council, highlighted the importance of structured nutrition education in schools for a comprehensive understanding of nutrition from an early age.
The proposed curriculum would cover essential topics such as basic nutritional concepts, food group classification, portioning, the role of nutrients in bodily functions, and the consequences of unhealthy eating habits. By introducing students to practical skills like cooking and gardening, they can apply their knowledge in real-life situations.
Incorporating nutrition education into the school curriculum is expected to strengthen the bond between schools, families, and communities, promoting the message of balanced nutrition across society. BGN emphasizes that nutrition education equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to lead healthy lives, prevent diseases, and improve overall quality of life.
As part of their efforts, BGN has utilized social media platforms to promote nutrition education and the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. The agency urges all stakeholders to support the integration of nutrition education into the school curriculum to advance Indonesia’s goal of achieving the Golden Generation 2045. Ikeu emphasized that the Free Nutritious Meals Program can reach its full potential when paired with comprehensive nutrition education that resonates throughout society.
