European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a new visa policy that will make it easier for Indonesian citizens to enter the European Union. This new policy allows Indonesians making their second visit to the EU to be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Berlaymont Building in Brussels. Von der Leyen emphasized that this visa policy aims to deepen long-term ties between Indonesia and the EU, particularly in areas such as education, investment, and social exchange.
This new visa policy is part of the people-to-people connections pillar of the EU-Indonesia strategic partnership, focusing on building bridges between the two peoples. President Prabowo welcomed the deepening of ties between the EU and Indonesia, highlighting the importance of trust and shared values in long-term relationships. He expressed his view of Europe as a leader in modern life and emphasized the partnership extending to values, solidarity, and a shared vision for the future.
Prabowo also expressed hope for the finalization and signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in Brussels, further solidifying the economic partnership between Indonesia and the EU. With the launch of this new visa policy and the deepening economic partnership, both Indonesia and the European Union have entered a new chapter in their bilateral relations, one marked by increased openness, strategic cooperation, and mutual benefits for their citizens.
