Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, received a warm welcome from members of Indonesia’s diaspora in Brazil during his visit to the country. Isaque Hattu, Chair of the Indonesian Diaspora in São Paulo, expressed his enthusiasm in greeting the President and the entire delegation. Despite the small number of Indonesian diaspora in Brazil, their sense of unity and solidarity was evident as they welcomed their homeland’s leader.
Hattu, known for his active involvement in supporting the Indonesian community in Brazil, had the opportunity to introduce himself to President Prabowo. He shared with the President his family background, mentioning his parents’ origins from Maluku and Kupang. Prabowo, in response, showed genuine interest and even recognized the name of Petrus Oktavianus, an Indonesian figure who had previous ties to Brazil.
During their informal conversation, Hattu conveyed his hope that Prabowo’s leadership would strengthen the relationship between Indonesia and Brazil. He emphasized the importance of cultural exchange, grassroots engagement, and increasing Brazilians’ understanding of Indonesia’s cultural richness to foster continued growth in the countries’ relationship. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Hattu expressing his delight in welcoming President Prabowo and his delegation to Brazil.
