Indonesia and France’s diplomatic relations that began in 1947 have continued to thrive over the years. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Jakarta and received a warm state welcome. The ceremonial atmosphere was vibrant, with around 3,000 students from elementary to high school levels lining the streets, dressed neatly and proudly waving the flags of both countries. As President Macron, accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, made his way to Merdeka Palace, the excitement among the students was palpable, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.

Upon his arrival at Merdeka Palace, President Macron was greeted warmly by President Prabowo Subianto in an official welcome ceremony. The two leaders walked together to the ceremonial grounds, where the national anthems of both countries were played, and a 21-gun salute paid tribute to their visit. With a clear blue sky above them, Prabowo and Macron reviewed the honor guard, acknowledging the enthusiastic students standing in the palace courtyard waving miniature flags.

In attendance at the ceremony were ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. President Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia also included a visit to the Military Academy in Magelang and a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, emphasizing the cultural and educational ties between the two nations. Following the official welcome, the two leaders engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, further solidifying the relationship between Indonesia and France.
