According to a Toyota Australia executive, fun cars with manual transmissions are here to stay. Despite the shift towards electrification, Toyota recognizes that enthusiasts still crave the unique experience provided by internal combustion engines. Gazoo Racing aims to cater to all car and performance enthusiasts, exploring synthetic fuels to extend the lifespan of ICE engines and developing electric sports cars like the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive FT-Se concept.
During an interview, Toyota Australia’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Sean Hanley, hinted at the Yaris M concept showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon. This hot hatch features a new 2.0-liter engine mounted behind the seats, a departure from the current GR Yaris setup. The mysterious “G20E” engine is versatile and potent, capable of producing over 400 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, hinting at its application in various performance models.
Toyota has confirmed that the Supra lineup will continue, even beyond the current A90 model. The company remains ambiguous about potential partners for the sixth-generation Supra but has dismissed rumors of collaboration with Mazda to revive the RX. Additionally, Toyota is developing a large-displacement engine for an unnamed supercar, possibly carrying the Lexus badge and racing as a Toyota GT3 model.
